Stinky lab hands

I'm taking a 2 week molecular biology lab intensive course that keeps me in laxtex gloves for about 6-7 hours a day.  It's only the second day of classes and my hands have a fowl laxtex smell that I just can't get rid of.  Soaps, lotions, detergents, sanitizers, nothing will kill this smell.  I don't know how people working in labs everyday can stand it!  It reminds me of the dentist and make me feel ill.  Bleh.

That's why I'm SO glad my lab uses the blue nitrile gloves. Those barely have a smell.

Latex gloves make my skin horribly dry. That was why I hated going to the dentist's. The gloves "dry up" my lips and cause them to crack.

I still prefer the rubber-non-powdery ones, but those are more expensive. Thank goodness I don't have to wear gloves most of the time :D

I should have raised my hand when they asked about latex allergies so I could have got a box of nitrile gloves to use. The nitrile are always pretty colors too.

I have notice this too! It's like the rubber just sucks the moisture out of them, and then I try to scrub the smell off them and they get even drier. Grrrrr.

You do get used to it eventually.

Nitrile gloves aren't so clingy which has pros and cons. The worst, though, are the latex ones with powder. Once your hands start sweating, it's kind of like trying to work after kneading dough. Bluergh.

Since quitting my PhD and moving to a non-lab field I can definitely say that I don't miss spending all day with my hands in gloves. We used to collectively get through tonnes of moisturiser in the lab.
